Patient Information – Curaderm BEC5

Read the Patient Information that comes with Curaderm BEC5 before you start using it and each time you get a refill. There may be new information. This leaflet does not take the place of talking with your health care provider about your medical condition or treatment. If you do not understand the information or have any questions about Curaderm BEC5, talk with your health care provider.

What is Curaderm BEC5

Curaderm BEC5 cream contains the active ingredient BEC which is a constant mixture of solasodine glycosides. BEC is extracted from the eggplant. It works by binding, followed by interfering with the growth of abnormal cells which are destroyed at all stages of their lifecycles. Normal cells are not affected by Curaderm BEC5. Curaderm BEC5 is a skin-use only (topical) medicine used to treat: Non melanoma skin cancers in adults.

  • NMSC is caused by too much sun exposure.
  • Curaderm BEC5 has not been studied in children under 18 years old for skin cancers. Children usually do not get skin cancers.

Tell your health care provider
  • About all your medical conditions, including if you:
    • are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is not known if Curaderm BEC5 can harm your unborn baby.
    • are breast-feeding. It is not known if Curaderm BEC5 passes into your milk and if it can harm your baby
  • About all the medicines you take including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Especially tell your health care provider if you have had other treatments for skin cancers.
How should I use Curaderm BEC5
  • Use Curaderm BEC5 exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Curaderm BEC5 is for skin use only. Do not take by mouth or use in or near your eyes. lips, or nostrils. Do not use Curaderm BEC5 unless your health care provider has taught you the right way to use it. Talk to your health care provider if you have any questions.
  • Curaderm BEC5 is used for several skin conditions. Use Curaderm BEC5 only on the area of your body to be treated. Your health care provider will tell you where to apply Curaderm BEC5 and how often and for how long to apply it for your condition. Do not use Curaderm BEC5 longer than necessary.
For Non Melanoma Skin Cancer.

Curaderm is usually used at least twice a day. It may be applied more frequently if required. Curaderm BEC5 is left covered on the skin until the next treatment time. Treatment should continue until all skin cancer appears to be gone, unless you are told otherwise by your health care provider. The area you treat with Curaderm BEC5 should be no larger than approximately 2 inches by 2 inches, unless otherwise directed by your health care provider.

Applying Curaderm BEC5
  • Curaderm BEC5 should be applied at least just before your bedtime and after breakfast. It may be applied more frequently if required.
  • Wash the area to be treated with mild soap and water.
  • Allow the area to dry.
  • Wash your hands.
  • Open the top of Curaderm BEC5 bottle just before use.
  • Apply a thin layer of Curaderm BEC5 only to the affected area or areas to be treated. Do not use more Curaderm BEC5 than is needed to cover the treatment area.
  • Gently dispense the cream onto the affected area or areas.
    - Do not get Curaderm BEC5 in your eyes.
  • Cover the treated area with an airtight bandage, such as paper tape.
  • Safely store the closed bottle of Curaderm BEC5 so that children and pets cannot get it. Store in a cool place such as the refrigerator.
  • After applying Curaderm BEC5 wash your hands well.
  • Leave the cream on the affected area or areas for the time prescribed by your health care provider. The length of time that Curaderm BEC5 is left on the skin is not the same for the different skin conditions that Curaderm BEC5 is used to treat.
  • Stop treatment only when normal skin tissue has replaced the cancerous tissue.
